What Is Virtual Reality? – Now a days two words are making buzz around the computer graphics field. These words are Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. Both of these words are attending lot of media attention. So let’s try to understand what these words are meaning.

Virtual Reality means Computer generated enviorments to interact with and be immersed in. It immerses users in a complete artificial digital enviorment. Virtual Reality can also be defined as, a creation of simulated enviorment by using computer technology. We will  be viewing a complete different reality in front of us when we look from VR. We can look in every direction as if we are physically at that location.

The key technologies behind this imaginative world are real-time computer graphics, color displays and simulation software. For creating the synthetic images the computer graphics is the basis, whole a Head-Mounted Display (HMD) supplies the users eyes with a stereoscopic view of computer generated world.

Complex software creates the virtual environment (VE), which could be anything from 3D objects to abstract databases. to provide visual images of this virtual word such system can also create acoustic images that accurately simulate the sounds within a VE.

Virtual Reality is typically achieved by wearing a headset like. Facebook’s Oculus equipped with the technology, and is used prominently in two different ways:

  • To Crate and enhance an imaginary reality for entertainment, and play, such as video and computer or 3D movies, head mounted display.
  • To enhance training for real life enviorments by the simulation of reality where people can practice be such as flight simulators for pilots.

Virtual reality is possible through a coding language as VRML ( Virtual Reality Modeling Language) which can to create a series of images, and specify what types of image are possible for them.

The dominant applications of VR is entertainment and education, another important sector was the mini-aerospace where VR can produce the tremendous cost says more important applicaiton of VR is medical field.

In augmented reality, users see and interact with the real world while digital contents are added to it. It is the result of replying technology to superimpose information such as sounds, images and text on the real world which we see.

we can define augmented reality as, an enhanced version of reality which is created by the use of technology to add digital information on an image of something.

It is the integration of digital information with the user’s enviorment in real time. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a really artificial enviorment, augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it.

Today, google glass and heads-up displays in car windshields a perhaps the most well-known consumer AR products, but the technology is used in many industires including healthcare, public safety, gas and oil, tourism and marketing.

AR is used in apps for smartphones and tablets. AR apps use earphones camera to show you a view of the real world in front of you then put a layer of information, incuding text and/or pages on top of that view. apps can use AR for fun, such as the game pokemon Go. or for information, such as the app Layer.

The primary value of augmented reality is that it brings components of the digital world into a person’s perception of the world, and does so not as a simple display of data, but through intergration of immersive sensations that are percieved as virtual parts of an environment.

Augmented reality is used to enhance natrual enviroments or relations and offer perceptually enriched experiences. wih the top of advanced AR technologies the information about the rounding real world of the user becomes interactive and totally modifiable.

The key applicaion of AR is a gaming industry and world of vaction where content may be accessed by scanning or viewing image with a mobile device. Industries are also getting tested about AR’s possibilites for example in knowledge ,gaming, educating, managing the information flood and organizing mount meetings.

In Virtual Reality, the computer uses similar sensors and math. However, rather than locating a real camera within a physical environment, the position of the user’s eyes are located within the simulated environment. If the user’s head turns, the graphics react accordingly. Rather than compositing virtual objects and a real scene, VR technology creates a convincing, interactive world for the user.

In Augmented Reality, the computer uses sensors and algorithms to determine the position and orientation of a camera. AR technology then renders the 3D graphics as they would appear from the viewpoint of the camera, superimposing the computer-generated images over a user’s view of the real world.
